3.0 to 3.5 on the cheap

I would like to play with the Dark Sun 3.5 rules because they seem more complete and refined than the older 3.0 rules, even though I have all 3.0 books. I have the 3.0 Psionics Handbook, which it looks like I’ll have to upgrade to play DS. As far as 3.5 core rules though, have you seen how much people want for a used 3.5 players handbook? I wondered if the pathfinder core rulebook would be a good alternative to buying the 3.5 PH and DMG. I’ve seen people on here though, discussing Pathfinder to Dark Sun 3.5 conversions. If you have to convert anyway, shouldn’t you just try to use your 3.0 core books? Are there any other cheap bastards out there who found a way to do this on the cheap? I have PDF versions of all these books too. What would be ideal, is if I only needed to print a few pages, and add some notes, to turn my 3.0 core books into 3.5. |

If you have the PDFs, I would print them out. I think 3.5 books are actually increasing in price, as I am not sure that they are still in print, and the demand appears to still be there. The changes from 3.0 to 3.5 are signifigant enough, that just a few pages won’t do it. As far as pathfinder is concerned, the classes are too different from 3.5 to keep a level of balance. Monsters are still useable, but classes (while I think made some good changes and really at the end of the day make taking a single class like fighter playable and exciting) are too different overall. |

Yeah, I printed the PH and am glad I did. I like the rule changes so far. Thanks for the reply. |
