DS4 - What's got your interest?

So with the recent news about Dark Sun for 4th, what is the top thing that grabs your attention? Is it the dramatically different society view (when compared to FR or Eberron), the resource race, the abundant savagery, or something else? For me, it’s the resource race. I find it interesting to have to weigh the options – do I protect this water supply in defense, or potentially sacrifice it to find and exact retribution from those that have been stealing from it? And so on. ;) Looking forward to hearing your opinions! |

It has me quite excited/interested also. For me though its all about difference. Being a huge fan of post apoc burned world style settings, Darksun appeals to me in every way. Plus the fact that the average ‘villager’ has some battle training makes for an interesting setting which is not some psuedo Dark ages/ Medieval Fantasy setting straight out of Europe times. What interests me also are the use of non metallic weapons /armor. The lack of resources sure, but also the enviroment. Cities are welcoming sure, but mostly ruled by not nice people. Its a place you need to visit, but dont really have many allies at or a handle on. Personally I think the very reasons that made the setting different from the two that have come before it, was the very reason it has come out (and has been stated as such elsewhere). What is going to be more interesting is ‘if’ classes like say the Paladin (which dont appear anywhere within Darksun to any extent) are present considering the normaly 4e policy of one size fits all. To me Darksun is as much defined by what it does not have, as what it does. Another much loved fact is that the ‘Gods’ of Darksun are evil. All of them. Sorcerer Kings grant spells to their own clerics, the Templars. Clerics gain their magic from Elemental powers. There is no Pelor or Lathander to run off and cry to. Expecting Justice from a Templar in the name of Kalak would be a sight to see Im looking forward to recreating my Mul Gladiator, and my Thri Kreen Cleric of Rain. |
