Dark Sun 3 R7 - Chapters 6 and 12

As you might know, we are releasing the final version of Dark Sun 3 (R7) chapter by chapter. |

I’m quite pleased with the release of DS3, R7! However, I’ve noticed one problem with the Monsters Chapter. Suni grabbed one of the gith’s oddly shaped hands and hauled the creature to its feet. “Listen, Blood Drinker – Hrath, isn’t it? What are you? A man or a woman? And the Githyanki (progenitors of the Gith) are also oviparous. From Planescape – Guide to the Astral Plane (page 47). The most pronounced deviation of the Githyanki from their human origins is that they have become egg-layers. This is either the result of some experiment of the illithids or the exposure to some strange astral energies. In either case, this method of reproduction closely resembles that of reptilian creatures. Within Githyanki communities, there is always an egg chamber (or possibly many of them), where all eggs are kept and guarded. Caretakers raise the young in a communal manner – there are no Githyanki families. However, DS3, r7 – Chapter 12 – Monster of Athas states that: Gith females gestate for six to seven months before giving birth to two or three children. A gith reaches adulthood at twelve. Mothers care for their children for half this time. Is this an intentional departure from canon? |

I will ask someone if they can investigate the gith matter. |

Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I will look it over, thanks. |

The two chapters from r7 are awesome. Especially the planar material, and the monsters section definitely reminds me of the original DS setting that we all fell in love with. In the latest status update, it says that secrets of the dead lands is currently on hold, however, in a thread titled “Best course …...” on the DS3 forum, Christopher had hinted at the possibility of releasing the setting material for SotDL and there seemed to be a fair bit of enthousiasm around this. I was wondering if this was still a possibility. Thanks and I’ve pasted Christopher’s post below:

Priority now is R7. Please start a separate thread if you want to discuss Secrets of the Dead Lands. |

Could I ask what the next planned releases are from r7? Are the chapters on races and classes nearing completion? I’m prepping a new DS arc at the moment and am wondering whether to go with the current races and classes, or whether to wait for r7 and see what changes have been made. (I suppose, as an associated question – how much have races and classes changed between r6 and r7?) I understand that these things take time – just interested in a time-scale for the releases :-). Thanks! |

There won´t be drastic changes to races and classes. Our internal playtester group will review those chapters before they are released. If you´re going to run a DS game, you´re welcome to sign up as a playtester. |

That would be very cool, actually :-) We’re doing a short Dragonlance arc at the moment, and should be busy with that for another three or four weeks, but I’ll be stepping up to run DS when that is done. So, sure – sign me up! |

I am starting a game with my student in the world of Darksun! They wanted to try something new and different. I shall offer them Athas. |

Hey, more feedback on chapter 12; I just noticed another thing: Still in the Ecology section of the Gith entry: Gith are oviparous, but prefer to eat meat, preferably uncooked. While I believe that the Gith are indeed oviparous, I think that the word intended in this paragraph is “omnivorous”. Not sure if anyone had already noticed this… |

Yeah, like Grummore says, any glimpse of the classes chapter would be sweet. Got someone wanting to play a templar and we’re quite keen to see the new version. (We’re a few sessions into the new campaign and the PCs have decided that Giustenal sounds like an interesting place to visit. I am trying very hard not to laugh.) |
