Apart from the great job the layouters do I’ve one problem with the layout of the recent athas.org publications. The left margin is broader than the right one. I think that’s the case, because if you bind it, it’s good to have more space on the left side. But this only holds true if you don’t print front and back side of every sheet. But concerning the increasing volume of recent athas.org publications this is quite rational if you don’t to waste paper and bloated books. In that case you have difficulties reading what’s on the right margin of every backside. Therefore I suggest to put the text again in the middle of every page. That is neutral to the preferences of different people.

I’ve sent the request to the layout guy to see what we can do about it.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to have it alternating from page to page?

Hi Brun01,
what did the layout guy say? With DS3.r7 the problem becomes quite urging. The book has 314 pages. That means that if you don’t print both sides of every sheet it gets a page count like a normal 628 pages book. It is much to bulky and a horrible waste of paper. But printing both sides of a sheet means that you can’t really read what is on the right margin of every back side.
I plan to print all the athas.org stuff as high quality books-on-demand for myself. But the layout is quite a problem.
Cheers,
REAL System

We made it easier to print and bind now, tested it out my printed copy of r7 myself :)

Strange. I’ve compared it to Athasian Emporium and the right hand side margin is even smaller than there. I’ve printed and binded it as well. The verso of the sheets are nearly impossible to read at the margin. I’ve printed it on the european A4 paper size.

There is still a large difference in the two margins. I’ve printed mine out and bound it and its hard to read some of the paragraphs. I swear early on the layout was friendly for printing, ie odd pages had the large margin on the left and even pages had the large margin on the right. (I still have my v1 release printed out) Was the a reason for this change?

If there has been a change, it is due to different editors. Not a conscious choice I think.
