We are pleased to announce the release of the illustrated version of Terrors of Athas for the 3.5 rules set. Special thanks to Dawnstealer for the huge amount of art contributions and Grummore for the layout job done incorporating the pictures into the document.

As a side note, we have also increased the number of creatures with Power Resistance or psionic immunity. These include Aviarag, Braxat, Cistern Fiend, Drakes, Gaj, Guardian, Id Fiend, Golems, Obsidian Retriever, Psionic Cats, and a few other creatures.

Wow! You guys are on a roll! This is great, and must have been an immense amount of work for the illustrators and everyone else that was involved… It looks great!
I have a question… what is the difference between an Athasian Bear and a Klar? I always thought they were supposed to be the same thing… also, the entries mention that both monsters are descendent of bears, have shells/carapace and psi-like abilities (noted difference seems to be the tendrils that cover the upper snout of Klars and that an Athasian Bear is CR 10 and a Klar is CR 8)
Thanks again for your hard work everyone.

Thank you guy, looks wonderful. Thank you Dawnstealer and Grummore for your extra efforts. My 10 year old is in love with the Sharg (two of his favorite predators wrapped up into one super beast), by the way WHERE is the Blackjaw River?

Blackjaw River is beneath the ruins of Giustenal.

So are Athasian Bears and Klars the same thing?
No, they’re not (althought they’re clearly very similar). The klar comes from DSMCII, and is a direct conversion of that creature. The Athasian Bear features in (iirc) the Obsidian Oracle. As described in the novel, it’s significantly larger and more powerful than the klar, so we decided to give it its own entry. Now, the similarity between klar and bear might well be due to an overlap between design and novel departments back in the day of TSR, but we chose to err on the side of over-completeness. You might want to rule that “klar” is just the Athasian name for “bear”, and use the two entries to represent different sizes or strains of the same species.

Excellent! Thank you, that was very helpful and it makes a lot of sense!
