[Short Review] Dregoth Ascending | Grummore done with DS
|
|
Hi everybody. On december 30th 2009, I GMed the last part of Dregoth Ascending (3rd part) for 10 hours. Both other part have been played in february 2009 and june 2009. First, I am not the kind of guy that like high level campaign. I found them too complicated and more, too bothersome as I seems never to find any challenge for the player. There is just too many option. I am the kind of guy that like DS while it’s between level 1 to 12 (maximum). BUT for Dregoth ascending and as my last campaign for a while, I had decided that the player would enjoy something already constructed (I usually build my own game). Not being a numbers cruncher, I dont like building complicated things (high level campaign by example). So, we played Dregoth Ascending… For the adventure, there was (they when through 13 to 16 for the adventure) : Mereon : A Human Wizard/Necroman (which character was present in the first part and in the last one, but not in the second) First part*** Interest 7/10 I have a heavy RPing party and at first I feared there would be too much fight. Though, the city encounters were diverse and with enough background that they were very interested in roaming the city to find more! I added flavor and more things around here and there. But, in the end this part is well done. Second part*** Interest 9/10 This is the part where the party had the most fun. If you like exploring cities and conducting inquire, this is for you. Although, I’d say that some of the encounter are a little too easy for character of this rank, particularly the part with the Star of Badna. Groh-en is alone and the party that could sneak up to you when you get out with it is too weak. Third part*** Interest 8/10 Even if written in the document, this part is way too easy. I had to add encounters and make them work around Guistenal much longer than the scenario planned. The part where they have to talk with the SK’s was intense as they were nervous, stressed and feverish (I like when they get in this state of mind = they are IN the game). Although, the part to the Pristine tower was very lame. They found a way to do it in the blink of an eye. I had to put encounters. They were so well planned they never, EVER got hurt. I never had the pleasure to roll on the mutation table… snif. As for Zar’kat Daar, they turned him in his short in one round an a half. They entered the steeple, Disintegrated (I wanted to be damned… I tryed to make him remove that spell with multiple encounter…) the altar with blood god as he had true sight already on. Then, I wanted to breath! I told myself for the first time, I will breath with a dragon. I said MUHAHAHAHAHA… but then… pouinpouinpouinnnn. I could NOT find the breath damage of Dregoth. Soooooo well done character, with all these stat soooo well created but no fuqn breath damage!!! It kind of scraped the feeling of the end of the game. They feared the moment… it never happened. I did a quickened spell, a spell and a power but they all survived, moved out of the steeple and teleported to Nibenay (talked there of their reward) and end of the game. LVL 16. I have to say that I liked the adventure. I like when all NPCs, foes and monsters are ready for the adventure. I was served. Thanks for having converted it to 3.5 guys. We had a lots of fun. I am just sad that in some ways, your work still stayed a bit in the shadows and with the 4th ed will seems to stay in it forever… |
