Does 4ed mean Athas in the Age of Heros?

I have been wondering, now that WoTC is re-releasing the DarkSun setting, and with the direction that the Prism Pentand series went, will the 4ed DarkSun setting take place in the Age of Heros? I’m curious to see in what age does everyone else play? |

I am going to try and run it in the age of heroes, after the failure of Dregoth’s godhood and will let you know how it goes. I am looking at some pretty massive power grabs because as long as you are not over extended, I would think that would be the next logical step. |

Official word is that Dark Sun is going to bet set just after the fall of Kalak; literally days or weeks after the event. Tyr is in chaos, still really trying to figure out it’s new government, but Urik hasn’t yet marched on the newly free city. When the first boxed set should have started, given the timing of the PP release. ;) |

I believe I read from the DDXP Convention information, that the opening is set a month after the fal of Kalak. Tyr as stated above by flip is in Chaos. Im guessing some high ranking Templars are trying to make the best of a bad situation. To me Darksun is only the Brown ages, the other ages dont seem like DS at all. |

I don’t pretend to be the most original thinker, but I’m suspicious Wizards took my idea. A year or so before the official announcement of DS4, I posted a bunch of topics here and elsewhere about my campaign, which began in Tyr one month after Kalak’s death, but otherwise goes off in a totally new direction. I was very clear in my posts that Tyr was going to be a bloody, chaotic mess, and that PCs would be able to help stabilize the city or exploit the chaos for themselves. I based my campaign on the aftermath of the fall of Saddam Hussein and all the unexpected factional violence that emerged in that power vacuum. I always thought Troy Dennings’ books were too optimistic and oversimplified the idea of ’ braveheart voice FREEDOM!!!!!!’ By killing Kalak, the heroes were cutting the head off the chicken. In case you don’t understand the metaphor, a chicken’s headless body flaps around like mad. Not only would killing Kalak throw the city into chaos, but the heroes made it doubly chaotic by immediately releasing all the slaves. So, suddenly both Tyr’s social order and economic system were completely destroyed. Denning seemed to gloss over these concepts. |
