If you use music for your Dark Sun games, what music do you use? I.e. Genre, artist, album.

I really like using Montagues and Capulets by Prokofiev.
Fits really well for an approaching Tyr storm – for me anyway =]

Movie soundtracks with an appropriate feel: The Mummy (and sequels), Gladiator (duh), various Elfman for creepy scenes. Selections from computer games with a similar feel: Diablo II, Planescape, Baldur’s Gate II. And for anything involving the Sea of Silt: Pirates of the Caribbean.

Just a few off the top of my head…
Conan (both movies) – Basil Poledouris
Gladiator (original and expanded) – Hans Zimmer
10,000 BC (bloody brilliant) – Harald Kloser & Thomas Wander
Battlestar Galactica (like Penn says, the new stuff) – Richard Gibbs & Bear McCreary
Crow II – Graeme Revell
Mozart in Egypt – Mozart and some Egyptian fellows
Batman Begins – Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard
Alien Resurrection – James Frizell
There was a really good thread on this over at the WotC boards – I recall making a large list (mmm, lists…) but can’t be bothered to look for it just now.

OK, because I can’t stand the thought of an incomplete list, I went and found that old thread. I would therefore also add the following:
Aliens – James Horner
Sleepy Hollow – Danny Elfman
X Files Movie (yes, really) – Marc Snow
eXistenZ (amazing atmos!!) – Howard Shore
Dune (David Lynch) – Toto
Children of Dune – Brian Tyler (recent discovery and just fantastic stuff!)
Dead Can Dance
And the bits from LotR, Star Wars and Batman that nobody ever recognises… ;-)
Some of the stuff from Pirates of the Caribbean makes for great battle music, particularly when the battle is going the PCs’ way.
Last of the Mohicans by Trevor Jones is beautiful – not always applicable to Athas but highly recommended nevertheless.

I find that Delirium “Spiritual Archives” works pretty well amusingly enough. I’ve also used some Autechre music here and there, it’s perfect for really creepy locals, and weird mind-bending scenes. Bob Holroyd has some really terrific stuff that sets a real visual atmosphere, very primal and tribal. I’ve used some Bonobo for merchant and market scenes. Future Sound of Lodon Lifeforms works well for the Forest Ridge and Ruhl-Thuan cultures.

Hmh, Stephan Micus ‘The Garden of Mirrors’, sometimes bits of Arvo Paert. If it has to do with undead, then parts of the Bram Stoker’s Dracula soundtrack. There was also a song on the Dune soundtrack that was quite good for DS, but can’t find the CD at the moment to look it up!
