I was thinking of starting my campaign in Urik or Tyr… with so many people liking Urik… I might have made my choice :-)

1. The realms underneath Giustenal, especially Kragmorta (I like the Dray, the place is mysterious and menacing, and the Athasian Underdark concept is compelling)
2. Thamasku and the Jagged Cliffs (I rather like life shaping and the Rhul-Thaun culture)
3. Urik and Nibenay (All city-states are terrific, but I find these two the most appealing)
4. The Barrier Wastes (Yes, wastes; the Glowing Desert and its ever-howling winds have an extraordinary ambiance)
5. Yathazor and the Black Spine Mountains (I like the Gith, and Yathazor is exotic; it has an Athasian Underdark quality, as well)

Hey Agi,
Segovara, Outpost #3, Bouuche
Those are some obscure locations for your other favorites. I recognize the first two but not Bouuche. I will have to look around to see where it comes from.

Avatar Agi 21 posts

@band2 – Bouuche is a village of my own design. It was the result of a detailed background write-up for my first PC. Over the past 12 years, it has changed little, although I have a much greater amount of detail written about it, as well as its inhabitants. Ditto for Altaruk, one of my favorite towns for PCs to visit.

Well if you have a good write up for Bouuche could you post it on the boards. It could be interesting to a lot of people here.

Favorite City-State: Urik

Favorite Misc. Location: The Crimson Monolith (I love a good mystery.)

Finally got around to getting some of my ideas put into a blog. My first post gives a brief intro to Bouuche and some of the important residents. You’ll have to bear in mind that this is still a work in progress, and suggestions and ideas are always welcome. I’ll try to keep up on this a little better, and will post new fluff as I finish it.

I was wondering what the Crimson Monolith is and what it does what it looks like, etc. It’s quite a mystery to me.

Hey Lhurgyof,

You can find all the info you need on the Crimson Monolith on page 269 of the 7th edition of the D&D 3.5 rules which are available as a free download from Athas.org at

http://www.athas.org/products/ds3

Make sure you download DS3_r7 and not ds3.2003

Ah, thank you very much, laric. It’s always puzzled me, because I’ve never seen anything about it, yet it is on the map. But perhaps they do that so us DM’s have something to make up.

Urik is my favorite city due to all the possible adventure leads. You have the surrounding towns (per Lynn Abbey), the obsidian mines, the halfling link, the Yaramuke ruins, and arguably the most aggressive Sorcerer King in Hamanu.

As far as ruins, Bodach always comes out on top. Who can resist hordes of cursed undead? Celik comes in at a close second just because it is pretty much a blank slate and very off the beaten path.

Someone needs to post a pdf of Lynn Abbey’s book. Not that I’m encouraging piracy, but that book is bloody impossible to find. In all my years, I have never actually seen a physical copy of it. I’d be willing to pay for it if the option were there.

I think Tyr is still the heart and soul of Dark Sun.

The New Order, yes piracy is bad, if your interested I know there is a fan made map of the Uric area based on Lynn Abbey’s book I have a copy.

So if Tyr is the heart of Dark Sun, then Nibenay must by the spine with its central location in the Tablelands ;)
