DS 4.0 is rapidly nearing release, and there’s been unusual quiet from Wizards. I can’t help getting a bad feeling from this. My gut tells me that this means either of two possibilities:

a) It’s not working; or
b) They are f*cking with it

It might not be working for any number of reasons. Maybe there’s too much information to pack into 3 books. Maybe they haven’t found ways to make the rules comply with the setting. Maybe they don’t have enough staff to meet the deadlines. Maybe Wizards Corporate doesn’t have faith in the investment. I don’t know.

Or they might be f*cking around with the setting in a way that they know will cause a fan-revolt, so they are keeping a low profile until release.

I think if the project were proceeding well, we would be hearing more about it. At the very least, we’d be seeing some artwork by now. All we’ve got to go on are Rich Baker’s very infrequent DS updates. If somebody knows more, lets hear it.

I’m not interested in 4th edition, but I will probably buy the Campaign sourcebook if they do a good job with Athas.

…and I’ve been wanting Dark Sun minis since forever…

I have high hopes for the campaign books, but as I am still sad about 4.0… I am concerned that the silence is due to embarassment.

Also, I had forgotten about Minis!

I am probably not going to buy DS4.0, unless the books are really nice and flavorful. The only thing I would have wanted are miniatures. Ooooh boy I waited sooo long for that.

4.0 is meh. I’m looking forward to those minis.

Wizards has chosen to scale back their minis operation to just one set per year, and they have cancelled their experiment with non-random minis. The ‘Lords of Madness’ set will be random and include a few DS minis.

My guess is that the DS minis will mostly be Rares and Super-Rares (Rikus, Sadira etc.). They might throw in an uncommon monster or two, like a Gith or a Crodlu, and a Thri-kreen.

New Order…you can get the old paint yourself DS minis in e-bay…btw..I hate what they did to Kreens…why make them looke more humanoid..they are mantis warriors…waht happened to their abdoment…agian I do hate the revmp of the Kreen minis…

I like your picture but it is still not a thri-kreen (they only have 2 legs)
