Avatar Lhurgyof 29 posts Ok, so this is the Dark Sun world as I played in it, and currently run it.
Athas was created as a prison to the Elder Elemental God. The whole Athas universe is surrounded by a crystal sphere. The elementals wish to destroy the prison and the Order wishes to keep Athas as it is.
The world was meant to be destroyed long ago, but the Order has kept it alive.
There are 13 Elements, they are: Fire, which is opposed to Water.
Earth, which is opposed to Air.
Sun, which is opposed to Silt.
Rain, which is opposed to Magma.
Spirit, which is opposed to the Mind.
Shadow, which is opposed to Magic.
And Time, which has no opposed element.
There is a Primal Drake for each element, which combats the Elder Elemental God every time he escapes (A.K.A, every time the universe of Athas explodes). Athas was created by the Primus One in Mechanus.
Stats are point buy, and the points are determined by 13 d12’s. The stat changes for races are not concrete, not every dwarf is uncharismatic, and not every half-giant is stupid. But there are general stats that have adjustments.
A character can die and return from the Gray once for every point of Constitution he has at character creation. Once a character is gone forever and a new one is made in the same campaign, you drop a d12 in your stat rolls. Thus, if you have given up on or lost 2 characters to the gray, you roll only 11d12 for your next character’s stats.
Characters of supremely epic level are at risk of death. And thus, must become named to be immune to dying. Being named is where you become and important part of Athas, such as being an elder elemental, or the guy who watches over Rajaat’s prison, or a leader of a certain place.
The Races are as follows:
Aarkockra
Belgoi
Dray
Dwarf
Half-Elf
Half-giant
Halfling
Human
Pterran
Tari
Thri-Kreen
Yuan-ti
  • Belgoi can use Mass Dominate as the psionic power if they can create a ringing noise with a metal object.
  • Yuan-ti is the only race that starts the game literate.
  • All humans have some sort of mutation due to use of magical abuse. It doesn’t affect gameplay (such as having an eye in the back of your head to prevent flanking) unless it is talked over with the DM, and you take the appropriate feats.
    The Classes are as follows:
    Assassian (Bard)
    Gladiator (Barbarian)
    Priest (Cleric)
    Druid
    Warrior (Fighter)
Knight of the Temple of the Silent Ones (Monk)
    Myrmidon (Paladin)
    Ranger
    Theif (Rogue)
    Defiler (Sorcerer)
    Preserver (Wizard)
    Psion
    Psychic Warrior
    Templar
  • Only Yuan-ti may be Monks, and only Dray may be Paladins.
  • Psion is a favored class for all races.
  • Paladins work backwards, smite good, cause disease, etc.
  • Bards gain poison use and sneak attack as a rogue. They gain the ability to study a poison for 1 day, using up the poison in the process. From that point on, they can create the poison. Material components for poisons are not needed.
  • Rogues get 8+int modx8 skill points at first level. Rogues do not gain sneak attack, instead a feat or a +2 bonus on a skill.
  • Barbarians are proficient with any type of weapon, do not take penalties for fighting with weapons of inferior qualities. They can also use improvised weapons with no penalty.
  • Fighters gain Leadership as a bonus feat, and can use anything as armor without penaties for improvising it.
  • Rangers get a favored terrain, and a bonus on survival checks equal to their level in their favored terrain.
  • Druids have a guarded land, which they protect and get level-dependent bonuses while in (such as teleportation).
  • Clerics gain immunity to their element at 5th level, can gate in a 1 square foot section of their element per level at level 10, can plane shift to their elemental plane at level 15, and spontaneously cast Summon Elemental spells. (Essentially summon monster, but for different Hit dice of elementals depending on the level of the spell).
  • Every class can be mixed with 20 levels of Psion and progress from levels 41 to 60 in a custom prestiege class. Defilers become Dragons, and Preservers becom Avangions. Clerics become elementals, eventually becoming the elder elemental for that element.
    Notable and Named characters:
  • Pyron (Halfling), Elder Fire Elemental.
  • Aquarius (Thri-Kreen), Elder Water Elemental.
  • Sadira (Half-Elf), Elder Magic Elemental.
  • Rylek (Human), Elder Shadow Elemental.
  • Tithian (Human), who I believe is the Elder Rain Elemental.
  • The Walker (Elf), Elder Spirit Elemental.
  • The Poisoner (Unknown), A master of poisons.
  • Syzergy (Yuan-ti), The head monk of the Temple of the Silent Ones.
  • Seefi Lüs, the Leveler (Yuan-ti), who keeps the balance in the world.
  • Ith, the Infamous Retriever (Tari), who reclaims important artifacts of Athas.
  • Ogrim, Chosen of Dregoth (Dray), the High Paladin of Dregoth, who took his place in the Gray.
  • Newmoon, Wielder of Elb, the Heart Bow (Human), who spreads fire to the abominations of the world.
  • Sapyn, Primal Drake of Time, and the Phycokinetics master.
  • Brynn, Primal Drake of the Mind.
  • Aquyn, Primal Drake of Water.
  • Gorynok, Primal Drake of Earth (or the Elder Elemental, can’t remember)
  • Mor-Ti (Githzeri), companion of Seefi Lüs and Ith.
  • Ralek (Dwarf, but really a solar), The one who freed Rajaat.
  • Luke and Willard (Two intelligent skeletons), Companions of Ralek.
  • Nesser (Possibly a mindhome folk), an Avangion.
  • Emektoo (Human), A druid who’s guarded land is the past.
    Notable Differences:
  • There is a bridge constructed that crosses the Estruary of the Forked Tongue from North Ledopolis to South Ledopolis.
  • Ktandeo’s Cane still exists, as does Umbra.
  • Rajaat has been freed by a shadow cleric.
  • Dregoth has become a 20th-level Dragon, and has ascended to become the only god of Athas (although Seefi Lüs is a rank 0 diety). But, he is trapped in the Gray, in a castle oh human remains just inside a Psionic Gate.
  • There are 13 Psionic gates, one in the Gray, one in Space, The Gate of Doom, the Gate near Ur Draxa, one outside the Temple of the Silent Ones, and one that grants access to Guistenal.
Well, there are the basics of the Campaign world as I know it. I don’t know all of the drakes and elementals, but I know enough to get by.

All works in progress, and all for 3.5 rules. I’m sure versions for other editions shouldn’t be too hard to create.
