Dark Sun Campaigns

Nope, but I’d love to see them when you’re done.

I’m open to assist with questions about psionics should there be desire.

Thank you. I’m 100% sure there will be tons of questions.

Here’s a Freedom conversion:

@Cadebane This reminded me that the DS Public Share (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/15WXZ7SiRswJqxf81Q_7z0xySNpyP0np0) is a thing; turns out there’s a number of 3.5e conversions for the 2e DS adventures there (as well as a bunch of other stuff). I can’t speak to the quality of the contents, but… :man_shrugging:

Do I still have write access to the Pristine Tower/Athas.org private share? I can read but I but I don’t think I’m able to add anything anymore. I want to add txt files. It will help with AI extraction of Dark Sun information.

You shouldn’t, we had to restrict access to the G-Drive recently.

What kind of txt files?

All of the novels, for one, faithfully converted into txt files. The txt format is important for use in AI models, as the AI will not have to use OCR to read it.

Let’s say you need a description of a particular area, sat the warrens in Tyr, or the city gate. Just drop The Verdant Passage into Gemini 2.5 Pro (via AI Studio) and ask for a description. You can also seek out inferences from the text, effectively chatting with the novel.

Thanks SeruZmaj and The_DMs_Revenge
Adam Cieszlak that’s helps a bunch.

That’s not the kind of resource that the PT team should be hoarding, the ability to text-search the old DS novels and products would benefit the whole community.

Its unfortunate that Athas.org’s policies keep us from hosting that type of content right here for everyone to see and use…

The reason why I suggested the private resource is because I don’t want blowback from a publicly available folder. You never know…

You could upload the files to say chatgpt as a private individual then post the link here. then if people want they can use it…

I’m not sure a link to bootleg copyrighted material would be acceptable, but i could be wrong. @raddu ?

How to Use the Archive.org D&D Novel Text Collection with Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview 03-25

This guide explains how to interact with a specific collection of Dungeons & Dragons novels, available as plain text files on Archive.org, using Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview 03-25 model via Google AI Studio.

Important Note on Format and Fair Use for Research

The source files are plain .txt documents available at:

Key characteristics of these files:

  1. Not Human-Readable: These files lack the standard formatting (chapters, paragraphs, italics, etc.) found in published e-books (like EPUB/PDF). They are essentially raw text dumps, making them very difficult and impractical for normal human reading.

  2. Purpose: Their primary utility in this state is for computational analysis and research by AI models like Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview 03-25 , which can process large volumes of unstructured text.

  3. Fair Use Argument: Because the format significantly hinders direct human consumption and the intended use here is for research, analysis, and querying about the content via an AI intermediary (not direct reading), this specific use case may align with principles of fair use for research purposes. It does not serve as a replacement for purchasing or reading the formatted novels.

Required Tools & Setup

  1. Google Account: Needed for Google AI Studio and Google Drive. (Recommendation: Consider a separate Google Account, as uploaded files consume Google Drive storage.)

  2. Google AI Studio Access: Go to https://aistudio.google.com/ and log in.

  3. Model Selection: Ensure you select the Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview 03-25 model within AI Studio. Verify this exact model designation is chosen.

Steps

  1. Download the Novel Files: Go to the Archive.org page (Redking's D&D Novels Text File Collection (May 2025) : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive). Use the TORRENT download option (recommended for preserving folder structure) and download the files to your computer.

  2. Access Google AI Studio & Select Model: Navigate to https://aistudio.google.com/, start a new chat/project, and choose Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview 03-25 from the model selection dropdown.

  3. Upload Novel Files: In the AI Studio interface, find the file upload option. Upload desired .txt files either via Direct Upload or by selecting them from Google Drive (after uploading them there first). Select the files you want the model to analyze. Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview 03-25 handles large inputs.

  4. Insert Files into Your Prompt: Once uploaded, the files will appear as selectable items (e.g., clickable “pills”). Click or drag these into your prompt input box to reference them.

  5. Chat with the Novels: Ask questions about the content of the referenced files. Examples: Based on the uploaded file ‘[Novel Title].txt’, summarize the main character’s journey., What are the key locations mentioned in the file ‘[Novel Title].txt’?, Compare the relationship between Character A and Character B as described in the files ‘[Novel 1].txt’ and ‘[Novel 2].txt’., Generate a list of magical items found in ‘[Novel Title].txt’.

Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview 03-25 will then process the text within the specified files to answer your questions.

UPDATE: Gemini was updated to Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview 05-06 a couple of hours ago, which should yield increased analytical capabilities.

As i think about it, maybe you should move/copy this post to a new thread, to make easier for others to find in the future.

I’m working on a loose conversion of Red Hand of Doom for Dark Sun, if it can be of interest to you. Depends on the urgency you need it.
I was never impressed by Freedom and the following modules by the way, but it’s only my humble opinion.

Well, they’re certainly known to have their issues, its true.

If the OP isn’t interested, I’d personally love to see a DS conversion of Red Hand of Doom. I always meant to write one up, but never got around to it…

So you should TOTALLY share it here when you’re done.

I’ll be about a year before I get to run it. One of the players and I take turns running a game. His starts soon, and most likely will not end till some times around December. I’m definitely interested in and ideas, suggestions, or inspiration anyone has and is willing to offer

Well, I’ve got a whole spreadsheet of notes that I’ve made for converting various published adventures to Dark Sun. They’re all written from a 3.5e mindset (but not necessarily 3.5e mechanics) and haven’t been tested, but the notes ought to be enough to get a person started.

Note that there are several tabs of info, and it displays best on a PC, not a phone.

Hey!

Thanks this will come handy for me when I run Freedom.
