Qin race from Hyperconscious by Bruce Cordell

This is the qin race from Hyperconscious. A good fit for Dark Sun, perhaps?

*The qin are psionic humanoids who view other intelligent races as property by right of mind.
*The qin people have no plans for world conquest, and they usually ignore the political nuances of “lesser” creatures. Most are simply interested in collecting other races as slaves to make their own lives more comfortable.

The qin infiltrate human cities, and the practice of slavery prevalent on Athas is perfect for the qin. The qin have racial telepathy among their own people, so they can communicate with each other in secret. A slave holding aristocrat may actually be a qin. A templar may be a qin. A society within a society.

No love for the Qin race?

Seems fine, i guess, but also kinda pointless, they’re effectively just slave-keeping human psions.

It’s nearly worthless (IMO) to do something mechanically when it could just be done via story. If Qin had a more extensive backstory or history or something, then it might matter more.

You play them up as a society within a society. They look like you, but are not like you. Rather, they exist like parasites on a host. They are like an ethnic illuminati working against your interests, whether you are slave, freeman or noble.

…and there you now have a story for your clandestine human society.

Exactly my point. Keep the fluff, loose the crunch.
