Bard errata from dark sun campaign setting (prior to revised)

Before the revised dark sun setting, bards got all thief abilities but no data on how much % they started with… Despite the Dark Sun campaign setting having its own class entries that are self contained and do not demand checking the PHB… Despite the bards there having every thief ability, not just 4… Anyone knows about errata about them?

The original boxed set did mention how much they started with.

“A bard can use all thief abilities: pick pockets, open locks, find/remove traps, move silently, hide in shadows, hear noise, climb walls, and read lan-guages. The initial values of each skill is given on the Thieving Skill Base Scores table, and is modified by race, Dexterity, and armor worn. Unlike thieves, bards add nothing to these base values at 1st level. Each time the bard rises a level in experience, the player receives another 20 points to dis-tribute. No more than 10 of these points can be assigned to a single skill and no skill can be raised above 95 percent”

Start at the base level (per the thief class in the PH). Add race and dex modifier. At 2nd level and beyond, add 20 points.

We understood that in totes different ways… You assume it means the thief’s thieving skill base scres table from the PHB… I assume it means a custom made thieving skill base scores table that should be elsewhere in the dark sun campaign setting book but isnt…

I agree that there’s certainly an error in the book.

This is what the Thief class says:

But this is what the bard class says:

Which would seem to refer to this table from the PHB:

But, that’s super weird in several respects. They should have used the same language in the Bard write-up as in the Thief write-up for maximum clarity. And it DOES seem to suggest that they meant to include a DS-specific Bard Skills table…

However, as it properly references the Thief table in the PHB (not the Bard skills table), i personally suspect that they just failed to use the right language, and didn’t accidentally leave out the relevant DS-specific Bard skills table. (Folks often screw up language from one instance to the next when doing development, even when they could have just copy/pasted thr text. I see it ALL the time)

You, of all people, should know that the Librarian always has sources and does the cross-referencing.

(GD and I know each other from 3 other message boards)

Yep we do, also, you quote 95% as limit, I saw that in DSCS revised, but in the standard DSCS I saw the limit at the inexplainably much lower 35%.

Where do you see that? 'Cause that’d be really weird.

here, that’s from my digital copy of the dark sun campaign setting.
I cannot share the publication info because as a new user I can only embed one picture in the post

also, can you check the giant in the playground forum where you mod? I asked about rules on artificial intelligence stuff and no one answered

Yeah, mine says 95 in that place. I don’t have my physical copy at work, but I’d be super-surprised if that’s supposed to be 35.

this is what mine says about publication:

Same here, mine says 95.
