Hi guys!
Great podcast! Really enjoyed this one, and it’s something I’ve been pondering a long time while I convert my game to 5e.
I stumbled across an excellent resource on all things equipment for 5e on DM’s Guild a few months ago. This little gem: https://www.dmsguild.com/product/218782/The-Comprehensive-Equipment-Manual-Revised
Not only does it specifically mention Dark Sun in a few spots, it has a great weapon property that applies to weapons made from inferior materials. The “ersatz” property. Essentially any weapon with this property takes a cumulative -1 damage every time you roll a natural 1 on your attack roll. If the penalty reaches -5, the weapon breaks. For armor with the property its AC bonus gets reduced by 1 every time you take a critical hit. Basically, the same mechanic that the rust monster uses for metal weapons.
I really liked this approach as it was a gradual wearing down of the weapon rather than an all or nothing break. Makes the cantrip mending really useful too.
Cheers,
Jeff
Another great podcast. Way to go guys.
I loved it. You had fun making it and it shows.
