Cornac Prestige Class is Incomplete

The Cornac entry in the Prestige Class Appendix II is broken.

The Animal Empathy, Cornac’s Will, Sensorium & Mind’s Touch class abilities for the Cornac are not defined in the class description at all. I assume Animal Empathy = Empathic looking at the class ability descriptions below.

If one of the Templarate can tell me what these class abilities should be, that would at least allow me to finish coding it.

Yes, we know (but thank you for letting us know). There’s an updated version of the PrC at the end of Adventures in the Dead Lands, pg 488.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

It’s pretty strange for the Cornac to have a skill requirement (Sense Motive) that isn’t also a class skill.

Oh, crud, I don’t know that i looked at the skills & requirements. I see the NPC that needed the PrC doesn’t even have ranks in Sense Motive.

You should definitely assume Sense Motive is a class skill. I’ll update the errata doc for AitDL.

Please let me know of you notice any other errors in either that PrC or the others in either presistige class appendix.

1.) Arch Defiler should probably have Sickening Raze on its defiler / bonus feat list.

2.) It wasn’t clear to me if the Battle Dancer’s class ability Battle Dance has any limitations on it’s use besides a duration, and that isn’t clear if it is per day or per encounter / activation.

3.) As a manifester, shouldn’t the Cornac have Psicraft as a class skill?

1 & 3) :+1:

  1. Looking at it, I’m not clear what else would limit the Battle Dance, but to me it sounds like its initiating an ability by dancing, not maintaining it via the dance, mechanically speaking.

Just drawing on (I’m sure completely off-base) pop culture tropes, if it’s just similar(ish) to a Native American priest doing a “rain” dance and then an effect happening, the above seems consistent. If the Battle Dancer is supposed to be more like a Bladesinger and dancing the whole time, then the ability’s description seems off (but the PrC’s flavor text doesn’t really give me that kind of vibe).

Regardless, keep 'em coming as you see them, though, and I’ll get them in the errata list.

Should the Elemental Focus class abilities for the Elementalist & Elemental Master stack?

Should the Elemental Resistance class abilities for the Elementalist & Elemental Master stack?

Yes, IMO both should stack. Though it’d have been nice if they made it more obvious, it’s pretty clear that an effort was made to let a character become both an Elementalist and Elemental Master.

Plus, at 11+ level, an extra 10 points of Fire Resistance (for instance) and a +1 DC to Fire spells isn’t a huge deal. Especially since the Elementalist’s capstone ability Ignore Element becomes much less important after you become an Elemental Master.

None of the Jaguar Knight class abilities say if they are Extraordinary, Supernatural, etc.

There are lots of problems in the two prestige class appendixes. Not just outright mistakes, but also game balance mistakes. Very stringent perquisites and weak class features seems to be the norm.

10 level prestige classes are supposed to have advancement past 20th level (Epic Level Handbook, pg 5), RAW, but I can’t see a clear progression for the Necromant. They get no bonus feats & no class abilities that improve with levels in the class aside from spellcasting.

There is no description of the Jaguar Knight’s Jaguar Roar class ability. I assume it was a general feat at one point & got removed.

Also, seems like the Jaguar Knight should have the Ride skill since they have Handle Animal?

Know No Fear should be Extraordinary, IMO.

Supreme Cleave is Ex.

Smoking Mirror is Ex, just like Slippery Mind.

Jaguar Roar seems to grant a non-existent feat, so it’d also be Ex. While we obviously know something about the feat from this text, IDK what its description might actually be. But, I’m happy to take suggestions.

Jaguar Strike is Ex.

Maybe. Or maybe they train companion animals that you can’t ride - like jaguars and other big cats, or jhaker.

I’d have to really read up on Draj to be sure.

Agreed. We had a similar problem when writing up Faces of the Dead Lands.

If you NEED an epic progression, I’d suggest just giving bonus feats per the epic wizard progression - 23, 26, etc. :man_shrugging:

For my purposes (mostly because I already had it scripted) I made it work like the Gladiator’s Threatening Glare except that it is sonic based & a Fortitude save vs Fear.

Is this an at will ability?

Spellstoring on Templar Knights would be very, very limited with their one or two harmful spells per spell level.

Using that ability seems fair.

Mmm, i doubt it - threatening glare is an ability gained at lvl 15, and can only be used gladiator lvl times per day.

Jaguar Roar is a feat that you can presumably get before 7th lvl (Jaguar Knight requiring BaB 7+), so…

 maybe 3 times per day for Jaguar Roar?

Well, they CAN only use it 2x per day.

And, unless I’m missing something, they could use it with these spells, which are like half of their whole list (not including 4th lvl spells):

1st: cause fear, command, cure light wounds, inflict light wounds.
2nd: cure moderate wounds, death knell, hold person, inflict moderate wounds.
3rd: cure serious wounds, dispel magic, inflict serious wounds, searing light.

(Cure spells being useful against undead foes)

If so, doesn’t sound too shabby to me…
