Dogs in Athas. Any canon regular dogs?

Really not a fan of that image. It looks like someone just went to a renaissance fair and started snapping pictures.

Is Aklem on the right or left? Dood on the right looks like he’d cook on Athas and dood on left is too bearded for an elf. And the “dogs”? Well, the image makes you think they could be dogs, but not being able to see the back half of either dog makes me think they could just have tentacles coming out of their back end. So imma gunna say not a dog.

Good sir, this is clearly an image taken by a memory stone in the Green Age!

If you subscribe to different levels of canon: I’d say yes, its canon.

Not as canon as the revised boxed set, but more canon than that RPGA adventure that is only “labeled” dark sun.

But not that card.

Well the thing is that with this guy we don’t have any context. We can speculate about him. It’s an Athas card, so he must be on Athas. But that’s as far as it goes. He could be from another world for all we know.

Its at least a legit card, if not image.

So i habe no reason to assume the text isn’t legit as well.

Seriously though, he’s a renaissance fair participant sucked into a portal.

Of course there was this guy at the fair too that got sucked in to a portal to FR

Is Gib a title? I’ve seen it now on a few of these cards.

Maybe those are dogs. Apparently one of the definitions of Gib is

a male cat

specifically : a castrated male cat

Hey Ouroborous, I take it you are a fan of E R Eddison and have read The Worm Ouroborous, Fish Dinner in Memison, and Mistress of Mistresses?

I loved it so much I used the name Brandock Daha as my persona in the Society of Creative Anachronisms (SCA).

Actually no , just a dragon enthusiast. The worm ouroboros is on my wish list, and I plan on getting my hand on it someday, but I’m not familiar with the other two

Gib is the reverse of Big and if you look at all the cards with that moniker the second word is a name backward. So you have:
Gib Reltub = Big Butler
Gib Aklem= Big Melka
etc, see below.

All of these names, Butler, Melka, etc were all TSR employees. Melka is Kevin Melka, the last Line Developer for Dark Sun. Butler is Jim Butler, a former TSR employee, and current Paizo CEO.

Card name World Type Level Set and number
Gib Aklem Dark Sun Psionicist 9 Night Stalkers (chase), 23/25
Gib Drawsemaj Dragonlance Cleric 20 Night Stalkers (chase), 22/25
Gib Ekim AD&D Hero 5/7 First Edition (chase), 4/25
Gib Evets AD&D Monster 8 First Edition (chase), 11/25
Gib Hcivonad AD&D Hero 6 Night Stalkers (chase), 19/25
Gib Htimsen AD&D Monster 9 First Edition (chase), 13/25
Gib Irod Greyhawk Wizard 13 Night Stalkers (chase), 21/25
Gib Kcir AD&D Hero 5 Runes & Ruins (chase), 16/25
Gib Lhadsemlo Ravenloft Monster 10 Night Stalkers (chase), 18/25
Gib Reltub Forgotten Realms Thief 8 Night Stalkers (chase), 20/25

Just remembered Neujack asked me to draw zombie wolves for a deadlands adventure some King’s Age ago, so first I had to figure out how a living one would look like. I basically just mixed wolf and aardwolf together

Oh well sorry for assuming. Be aware the worm Ouroborous is not about Dragons but rather refers to the ever repeating circle of events conveyed in the novel. Ouroborous being the same as Jormangander the worm who swallows his tail.

These it could be argued were the first fantasy novels and form a loose trilogy, although they don’t really relate to each other, I dont think. I have read the first novel three times but struggled with the others… I really should attempt them again.
