Hi there,
I haven’t seen this yet in 3.5e. Its from the 2e Dragon Crown adventure. Let me know if you think there needs to be any changes:
Ever-full Bag of Seeds
Minor Artifact; Wondrous Item
Aura: Strong conjuration and transmutation; CL 20th
Weight: 1 lb.
This supple green leather pouch feels empty and has leaf patterns embossed into it. It is a sacred artifact of Athas’s renewal, capable of planting life where death once ruled.
Magical Seeds (Su)
When a preserver wizard, non-templar cleric, or druid reaches into the bag, they may draw forth a single magical seed. These seeds, when planted and nurtured for four weeks, grow into full Tree of Life specimens (see below).
- Preservers, Clerics (non-templar), Druids: May draw a total of 1d10 such seeds before the bag becomes inert to them (only producing mundane seeds thereafter).
- Avangions: May draw an unlimited number of magical seeds from the bag.
- Others: Only produce mundane seeds (see below).
Tree of Life Effects
Each magical seed grows into a Tree of Life (Large Plant, 14 HD):
- Aura of Protection (Su): Within a radius based on tree age (starting at 60 ft.), arcane spells are empowered as though cast in abundant terrain. Defiling magic within the aura does not harm the surrounding life, and its effects are nullified.
- Bonus Spells: Druids and clerics who prepare spells within 5 ft. of the tree gain access to heal, augury, divination, and scrying once per day (must be of a spell level they can normally cast).
- Regrowth: Heals damage and negative levels each hour, fully regenerates over a week.
- Rejuvenation: Restores barren terrain within its aura to fertile over time.
- Spell Source: Wizards may safely draw energy for arcane magic without defiling, absorbing negative levels onto the tree.
Mundane Seeds (Su)
Characters not of the valid classes produce mundane seeds. Roll 1d6 to determine:
- Grass
- Small cactus
- Berry bush
- Vegetable
- Flowers
- Vine
These grow as normal with water and care, but provide no magical benefits.
Tree Species Roll (1d10)
When drawing a magical seed, roll to determine tree type:
- Oak
- Apple
- Redwood
- Maple
- Willow
- Fir
- Pine
- Cherry
- Cedar
- Birch
Each tree has a normal physical form matching its type but retains the full magical properties of a Tree of Life.
Destruction
The Ever-full Bag of Seeds can only be destroyed if it is buried beneath the Obsidian Plains—a region where no natural life can grow—and left undisturbed for 13 consecutive years. If the bag is unearthed or tampered with during this time, the countdown resets.
This symbolic act severs the bag’s tie to Athas’s rebirth, entombing it beneath the very land where life was irrevocably silenced.
Later,
Rob.
