Preserver/defilers

I’m going to be running a dark sun game soon in 3.5. I think I have a pretty good understanding of defilers. But not finding much info on preservers. Can some explain how a preserver works? And maybe defilers. I am new to being a DM and want to make sure I get it right.

Awesome, congratulations!

Defilers draw as much energy as possible when casting spells, leaving the land around them barren. They also become addicted to the feeling of defiling, and find it extremely hard to not do so whenever casting spells.

Preservers draw energy gently, not ravaging the land when cast spells. But, preservers can CHOOSE to defile, and might become defilers if they do so too many times/often.

If you’re using the Athas.org 3.5e v8 rules, then you find the most obvious difference at the bottom of pg 117 - The Corruption of Power. This section details the bonus a wizard gains from defiling, as well as a consequences (on both the land and those around them).

Does that help?

Yes it does. I guess I just over looked that page.
