I just finished reading IAmGiff’s work on Athasian mongrelmen. Could Rajaat have been a “high functioning” mongrelman, with many deformities but not so severe as his mongrelmen fellows?
Only if mongrelmen are somehow related to pyreen, like a genetic disorder, with Rajaat being eceptional in his cognetive abilities.

I had never considered the idea myself. It’s obviously not compatible with the “official canon” since Rajaat is supposed to be a pyreen. But if you were going to use Mongrelmen in Athas, I do think this could be a really intriguing and super cool twist. A self-loathing mongrel who wants to return the world (and himself) to purity (but can’t) is in many ways a more intriguing character than just a power-hungry pyreen.
