A little Googling says Brute was the setting name for Barbarians in early drafts. Other posts (possibly talking about their home rules) said they took out raging and added Berserker Strength (Strength +1 per level, IIRC).

That was a bit of silliness and refusal to implement 3.5e properly. You can read about it here.

This isn’t what I am saying. I am not the taking a 4E line, where “if its in D&D then its in Dark Sun”. What I am saying is that the default should be inclusion of classes, until they are proven to be unsuitable.
