I’m sticking this here just because I ran across it: ShadowSun looks to be a conversion/ripoff of Dark Sun in the Shadowdark OSR system.
Yeah, it’s been out for a while. It’s very loosley based on Dark Sun. Far from a full conversion.
The author is actually currently working on a revision to this book to include more Dark Sun inspired material. I would not call it a ripoff though, more of a spiritual successor maybe?
Perhaps I am in the minority, but I don’t understand the appeal of something like Shadowdark for a long running campaign when you’ve got the spectrum of OD&D, B/X, 1e, 2e, 3e and so forth.
Many years ago I began to feel that the OSR swung way too far in the rules light direction after the first wave of C&C, Basic Fantasy, OSRIC, S&W and Labyrinth Lord.
The production is beautiful and I could see it being fun for pickup games but I suppose my appreciation of 2e and 3e D&D leave me preferring a much more robust set of rules and options.
I just think that we should have some record of all Dark Sun/Dark Sun-inspired products on this site somewhere.
I think Athas.org hits some limits about what non-D&D stuff it hosts, but we might be able to get away with a message board post?
That’s all I meant, that we have some listing of such things in a wiki or forum thread.
Well, you can already click the “Other Rules” tag at the top of the post to see all other forum threads or whatever also tagged with that tag, but if someone would like to collect links to such other rules sets (either here or in a fresh thread), i think that’d be a great idea.
You mean like this?:
No, that’s a list of official DS products, which is (lovely and amazing, but) the exact opposite of a list of DS conversions to other rulesets.
Unless you mean “a list like this?” Then yes, a list.
Pretty much. A list of similar nature, specific to the topic.
Then absolutely, yes.
Okay, that was confusing, as I assumed that this was a response to an entirely different post, where it would have made even more sense.
